The son and grandson of New Orleans contractors and entrepreneurs, Scott is no stranger to starting his own business. So it came as no surprise that immediately following his 2005 Loyola graduation, Scott would open his own law practice focusing on construction and business law and counseling.
In less than two years, Smiley Law Group has grown from a solo practice to a six-person office, and currently has full-time offices in both New Orleans, LA and Seattle, WA. In 2006, Scott became the youngest person and the youngest attorney to ever get selected by New Orleans City Business magazine as a “Leadership in Law” honoree. He repeated the honor in 2007, and in fact, has yet to practice law without being recognized as one of the Top 50 attorneys in the New Orleans Metro Area.
As an attorney, Scott has brokered more than 2.5 million in settlements of Hurricane Katrina claims, and has an active client base of contractors and businesses numbering more than 150.
A native of New Orleans, Scott’s business experience began in 1998 while still a student at Brother Martin High School, where he founded The Web Lab – a web design and programming firm. The Web Lab is still in business ten years later, with a strong client base and a subsidiary company currently developing web-based applications for contractors and lawyers.
In May 2007, The Web Lab was influential in helping Scott launch another business, ExpressLien.com. ExpressLien.com is a web-based service whereby contractors and material suppliers can lien non-paying construction projects for a fraction of the cost and time involved with hiring an attorney. The website welcomed more than 1000 visitors in its first 30 days online.
